dhcp failover on windows server 2016 not working. Single dhcp works fine. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I've tried to use a dhcp failover configuration on a windows server 2016 environment. When configuring the first dhcp as single server everything is working fine.

As soon as I enable the dhcp failover configuration, load balacing or hot standby doesn't matter, the clients won't get an ip address.

    - No errors or warnings related to dhcp are listed in the event log.

    - ipconfig /release & /renew doesn't help.

    - replication between both dhcp servers are working fine.

    - dhcp log shows the following while failover is active:

    Server 1:

    15,12/04/17,10:58:33,NACK,172.17.100.0,,005056A57930,,0,6,,,,,,,,,0 (repeated multiple times)

    Server 2:

15,12/04/17,10:58:33,Packet dropped because of Client ID hash mismatch or standby server.,172.17.100.0,,005056A57930,,0,6,,,,,,,,,0 (repeated multiple times)

I hope someone has ideas how to solve or troubleshoot the issue.
