No, it is not possible to downgrade Internet Explorer in Windows 7. Two workarounds however are:
1. Download and use "Windows XP Mode" on the machines that require IE6, http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx
2. Use MED-V to centrally maintain a Windows XP solution (with IE6) to roll out to the machines that need IE6, http://www.microsoft.com/windows/enterprise/products/mdop/med-v.aspxThe problems that you are experiencing could maybe also be solved but that depends on what the problems are.

Why? How do you know? If the documentation for those applications say
that, what is *probably* meant is that they need at *least* IE6.
Downgrading is probably completely unnecessary. Try IE8 and see.
