  • if your machine is already connected with the domain, you can check for the smtp details from the network guys and it will be all set. you dont have to install it on your Project server  unless you are building a one box solution for the evaluation purposes.

browse this article to troubleshoot any issues in communicating with smtp:

    hope this helps.

  • Ok, gentleman. i have figured it out.

What i did is installed smtp at the project server computer and

1.@smtp server: set relay to all except the following-i left the list blank

2.provide the smtp server details at sharepoint outgoing mail

3.provide the smtp server, port no of the locally installed smtp server and email address at the project server alerts and email settings area.

FYI, the internal domain that i used is the same name of the company public domain for example mycompany.com. i have used this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/153119 to figure out the issue.

    Thanks everyone.

  • Hi Ashraf,

go to the server settings -> under operational policies, go to alerts and reminders and define SMTP server name and the port, and also the address you want to use to send the emails from.

You can check for the SMTP info from your organization's network specialist.

    Does this help ?
