Introducing a CAS server into an environment with 2 existing Primary Site Servers RRS feed

  • I'm currently working for a mining company who has an existing Primary Site Server. They will be merging with another company who has a Primary Site server too. Both sites are SCCM 2012 R2

    They are wanting to add a CAS server to manage both sites.

    From what I have read, only 1 Primary Site Server can be brought into a hierarchy. Is this correct?

    Would this mean the second Primary Site Server would need to be rebuilt?

  • That's correct, you would end up having to rebuilt one of the two sites since only one can be expanded into a CAS while it is being built.

    If they have less than 100,000 clients, it is better to build a single new primary site and manage the entire infrastructure with it.  There is no technical reason to have a CAS if you have less than 100,000 clients.  You would use Role Based Administration to allow staff from different business areas to manage the devices they are responsible for.
