Dual booting 64 bit and 32 bit windows RRS feed

    I am running a dual boot system Windows 7 pro 32 bit, on one hard drive and windows 8.1 64 bit on another hard drive, Will I be able to upgrade both? I mostly use 32 bit for work and the 64 bit for rendering movies and photo shop. I really don't want to screw the system up as it is working perfectly for me now. But I would like to upgrade.

    Unless there is some proprietary software from a legacy system (Like vista or XP) anything that runs in win 7 (32 bit or 64 bit) will run in win 10 64 bit.  There should really be no reason for you to have to reboot to do work and reboot to do rendering & photoshop.  That will also relieve you of having 2 copies of each win 10 update, and twice the maintenance.

    Yes, you will be able to upgrade both  the OS. When you upgrade, you’ll stay on like-to-like editions of Windows.

    Hello ZigZag,

      The one program I am concerned about is a dos based program which runs in windows 7 32bit with no problems, will this run on Windows 10 64bit? It is Instant Recall 2.0

    This is just not true as a blanket statement. We, too, have a mission critical DOS data base that of course will not run at all on 64bit.

    Now, I would as the same question that was not answered here, not adequately at least. Yes, if you don't need anything DOS or legacy 16-bit Windows -- and that means NONE -- you can upgrade to 64bit, and the performance boost & future looks very promising.

    But for those of us who need to run a dual boot 32bit/64bit, how can we do it? Particularly in light of the incompatibility that MS introduced with 32bit being unable to boot from a GPT disk, and UEFI bios being unable to boot 32bit. Its a mess.
