Cisco CUCM and Exchange UM integration: G.729/G.711 question RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello all,

A customer is having a Cisco PBX system running with version 6.1.x. Also, this customer has several sites and communications between different sites are traveling through a WAN and are using G.729 codec for WAN badnwidth limitation.
I would like to configure users to be able to use Exchange 2010 UM as the voice mail system. But I'm wondering if this could work knowing that Exchange UM only supports G.711. I'm wondering if the CUCM could be a kind of transcoder to decode/encode G.729/G.711 codecs for Cisco phones?

Any pointers to get me out of this Codec issue? Or I have no other way than just configure G.711 to be used everywhere (this is almost impossible with the WAN limitation)?

    Thanks a lot.
    Quang.

  • Yes, you can configure transcoding on any Cisco CUCM or ISR.

We use Exchange 2010 UM with Cisco CUCM and transcoding, its works.

  • Thanks Alexey. Indeed, we are going to implement the CUBE component to perform the transcoding.
Will keep you informed how it's going once I implemented it.
