  • has someone come across a problem with the following combination:
SharePoint 2007 and windows 7 OS:
Any word document with + sign (eg: file + name) in the filename (ListItem["Name"] property), cannot open. No error messages, nothing, just can't open.
However, can open the same document in XP

  • Hi kin06,

There are some characters that you cannot use in sites, folders, and files in SharePoint. Try to remove the “+” from the filename, see if this could solve this issue. And here is a KB article which is about the characters that you cannot use in SharePoint files name:

  • Thanks Peng Lei. Yes we cannot use in site name, but in current scenario, we are using in file name and it works fine when accessed from windows xp machine. Just not working for windows 7 machine.

Removing the + sign does the trick for windows 7, but this means a huge data renaming is involved when we change clients operating system? sounds bad :(

And SharePoint lets you name the file with characters like ', @, $, +. If this was not suppose to be, they should restrict users from doing this.
