copy to cd RRS feed

  • Question

  • Why does XP tell me that a cd is full, when Vista tells me it is only 1/4 full, when trying to copy?

  • What's the file system on the CD?

If it's UDF, Windows XP can't write to UDF format CDs.

This is indeed a major trouble, Windows XP can't write to UDF format CDs and Windows Vista and above can't write to CDFS (file system used by Windows XP for burning) format CDs. Here I am talking about the native CD burning capabilities in Windows XP and Vista. Nero, Roxio and most other CD/DVD burning software support writing to both CDFS and UDF formatted CDs/DVDs.

If the file system is CDFS, then it might be that the CD is corrupted; which can have many causes from physical damage to an incomplete data burn. If it's a CD-RW, you can try copying the contents to your computer and erase the CD-RW. Then try burning the data from the computer to the CD again. But this isn't something that will work for sure.
