SCCM 2012 SP1 - SCCM 2012 SP1 Migration RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

Is sccm 2012 to sccm 2012 migration possible.

We were having a SCCM 2007 infra before from where we have migrated to SCCM 2012 SP1 now after migration we have made changes to SCCM 2012 like packages data source, new collections were created.

we are still having the SCCM 2007 site but we don't want to migrate the data from there as we have to again repeat the process of changing packages data source & adding new collections.

I have 2 questions in my mind :-

    1. Is there a way by which we can directly migrate the collection,Packages & the advertisements from sccm 2012 SP1 to Our newly created SCCM 2012 SP1 site.

    2. We are having a CAS & a primary site, so, how the migration(from 2007 or 2012) should be done, will it be done only to the CAS or CAS & Primary site both.

    Thanks,

    Pranay.

  • #1: with CM12 SP1 you can create migration jobs that are using a CM12 SP1 source hierarchy
#2: why have you decided to install a CAS at all? A CAS and one primary does not make too much sense.

  • Hi,

    1. Yes, you can use the Migration wizard in the same way you would when migrating from SCCM 2007 - 2012.

    2. Normally you should do it to the CAS as all data are global, if you have content regualtions and all content is not allowed to be distributed to all DP's you should migrate that to the Primary site. You should not migrate it to both.

  • Hi Torsten,

We are thinking about scaling so, considering the fact that the no. of machine will increase so, we have installed the CAS server.

Which is the best thing to do in this case should we migrate the data only to CAS or CAS & Primary site both.

    Thanks,

    Pranay.

To what dimension? More than 100.000 clients?
