How to create site collection under http://server/sites RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I want to create a site collection under http://server/sites where /sites is a wild card inclusion which has been added using manged paths in central dministration.

I want to import a site under /sites i.e. http://server/sites/Newsite, i have tried using ststadm.exe but its throws me an error saying the url(i.e. http://serever/sites) doesnt exist

Please let me know if i am not clear with my question and please help me on this.

    Thanks in advance

  • Hi Sarath,

When you say trying to import, are you running stsadm -o import? In either case of import or restore you will need a site collection already present as http://server/sites/Newsite
If you are doing import, then you need to ensure the template used to create the site collection is same as what the old site is using. If you are performing restore, you can mention the overwrite switch and restore the site collection. Here Site template does not matter.

  • Hi Dilip

    Thanks for your responce

Actually here /sites is not a site collection its bascially a managed path.I am tried to restore a site collection under /sites i.e http://servername/sites/site1 and am doing this using stsadm command but its says the path doesnot exists.

So could you please tell me how can i restore an existing site collection under /sites.
