Install SCCM R3? RRS feed

  • Question

  • What is the upgrade path for SCCM r3? You must have SCCM R2 eval installed to be able to upgrade to the eval copy of SCCM R3? What should be installed first? Should I start with SCCM 2007 update to SP1, then SP2, then R2 eval, then R3 eval?

If I install a full version of SCCM Sp1 (non-eval) then try to install a SP2 eval, it errors out when trying to install a eval copy of R2 and only gives me the option to uninstall. Has anyone had this error? What is the correct upgrade path to get R3 installed?

  • R3 requires SP2 and KB977384, nothing more, nothing less.

R3 includes R2 thus a separate install of R2 does not have to performed prior to R3 installation.

There is no such thing as SP2 eval; SP2 is a free service pack/upgrade.

You can only install eval version of R2/R3 on eval versions of the product.

R2 and R3 are not free; they require software assurance or a new pruchase of the product.

  • Are you sure that there is no such thing as SP2 eval?

    What is this?

Has the regular version (RTM, not eval) version of R3 been posted to MSVL or SA sites yet? I have yet to see it.

On the R3 evaluation site it states that you have to have the R2 eval installed for it to work. Is that correct?

"Please Note: SC Configuration Manager 2007 R3 Evaluation will only install on the System Center Configuration Manager SP2 Evaluation product."

  • That's the entire product, not just SP2; it just happens to be an eval of the product with SP2 installed.

I have had two separate customers download R3 from their MVLS sites and heard of others also so yes it has been posted. It has not made it to MSDN or TechNet yet though.

Yes, "You can only install [the] eval version of R2/R3 on eval versions of the product"
