safe mode & last know Good Configuration mode RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have install a XP with SS and the WDP is turn on. This computer is for public use!

I found that the "safe mode & last know Good Configuration mode" menu will appear on next boot when the computer is not shutdown successful(by Reset button, lost power etc.)

Will the system use the "last know Good Configuration" setting to override the WDP if some of user entry the XP by "last know Good Configuration mode"?

No, it will not affect WDP. The Last Known Good Configuration feature restores registry information and driver settings that were in effect the last time the computer started successfully. Use the Last Known Good Configuration feature when you cannot start Windows XP after you make a change to your computer, or when you suspect that a change that you just made may cause a problem. For example, you can use this feature if you cannot start Windows XP after you install a new driver for your video adapter, or if you installed an incorrect driver and have not yet restarted your computer. In most cases, it will not affect WDP unless incorrect settings are configured which caused the system unable to boot up.

Yes, Windows Disk Protection may be turned off if the computer is not turned off properly. We need to avoid this kind of situation. And this issue is not caused by selecting Last Known Good Configuration.
