I cannot start the Telephony service. I tried everything! Removing/adding features and roles, setting the account to local system.

    always getting

"The Telephony service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."

Trying to open phone and modem options control panel throws: "phone and modem control panel can not be opened. you may have a problem starting telephony service."

    Event viewer info:

"The Remote Access Connection Manager service depends on the Telephony service which failed to start because of the following error: The operation completed successfully."

I'm not running dc, ad, exchange or whatever. simple 2008 server R1 with all updates. I think one of them caused this...

  • after two long days stuck on this, and no luck, here's what solved this

    1) uninstall service pack 2

    2) insert windows 2008 server install cd/dvd (windows active)

    3) select "upgrade" option (no files are lost, programs still work after upgrading)

    voilá, telephony guy back
