Windows 7 Installer Service RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

We have imaged computers using SCCM 2012 and have deployed Windows 7 x64 SP1.

The issue we are now experiencing is that random PCs will not allow installation of packages that use the Windows Installer Service.

I have looked at various Microsoft guides including restarting the service, opening cmd prompt and un-registering and re-registering the service, importing registry keys, used a Windows installer cleanup utility, tried to repair the computer during startup and other tools/fixes all without any working solution.

We cannot narrow down what has broken the Windows installer and the machines are sporadic in location.

Can anybody please suggest an alternative fix?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  • Hi,

Could you tell me what the error message you got when you use Windows Installer to install packages? It seems you have tried many common troubleshooting ways to fix it but failed. I just remedying to ways for you to fix it which you ignored in your troubleshooting process. You can try them and check the issue.

    1. Go to “Control Panel” > “Windows Updates” > “Check for Updates”. Install the latest updates.
    2. If the step 1 doesn’t work for the issue, we would like to know your Windows Installer version due to Windows Installer 4.5 or lower version cannot be applied on Windows 7 or higher system version.

I infer you used lower version due to you use SCCM to deploy. Please check the deployment process.

If the steps above do not work, you have to use process monitor to capture packages to find the error reason.

    Wish you succeed fixing it.
