Is there any Exchange API support exporting .edb file to .pst file.

    Question

  • Hi

I'm working on a feasibility study of Exchange single mailbox/item recovery for our product. I find that there are some third part software can extract items  from .edb file , and export specific items to .pst file. But there is not public  Exchange SDK about this functionality. So I want to know is there any special API  be provided for third part partener about this extract  .edb file?  if not, are there any another way to implement this functionality?

  • To recover your EDB file you must need a 3rd party Exchange Server Recovery Software. For your convenience you can read this tutorial about EDB Recovery. visit http://www.edbtopsttutorial.net

  • There are no MS API's that allow for access to an Offline EDB, however Lucid8 does have a 64 bit API that we license to 3rd parties and of course the complete DigiScope product as well

Search, Recover, Export Mailboxes, Folders, Email, Contacts, Calendars, Tasks, etc. from Offline Exchange Databases (EDBs), On-Premise Exchange Servers and Office 365. Migrate/Recover direct from any offline EDB into any On-Premises Exchange Server, even cross version i.e. 2003 → 2007 → 2010 →2013 → 2016 → Office 365 with Lucid8's DigiScope

  • Since you need to extract items at the Granular level and move Single items of "Email, Contacts, Tasks, and Calendar" Details into a .pst format.

Not sure about the API but you can try
"Power-Shell Commands" offered by Exchange Server.  To specify which folders to include to export, you need to use "use the IncludeFolders parameter"

For Example, to export only data from the Sent Items folder, run the following command:

    Export-Mailbox -Identity <MailboxIdParameter> -IncludeFolders '\Sent Items' -TargetFolder <Target_Folder_Name> -TargetMailbox <MailboxIdParameter>

You can View other Commands to Export Specific Items to PST File Format:

  • You can use eseutil and exchange powershell. I have a guide here : https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Exchange-Recover-mailbox-ef69c226?redir=0
