After applying KB3178717 Skype for business application version remains the same. RRS feed

  • Hi Everyone,

I am running the following versions - 16.0.4266.1001 32 bit on a Windows 7 64 bit O/S with Office 2010 SP2 32 bit installation. When I attempt to update the application from the WSUS update server pushing various KB's, the applications version is not changing. I see the KB is applied if I try to run it again but not listed in control panel.

I have attempted the following -

    • 16.0.4266.1001               MF Release
    • 16.0.4312.1000               KB3114372
    • 16.0.4471.1000               KB3127980
    • 16.0.4522.1000               KB3178717

The application has not been patched since the release but when I attempt to update it some of the KB's are saying they are already installed.

  • Hi FireRedFred,

Did you install a standalone SFB 2016 on your windows 7 computer?

For this issue, please try the following steps:

    1. Delete SFB cache file
    2. In order to avoid the effect of the third party software, please try to perform a clean boot. You could refer to the following link to do a clean boot on your computer: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135

  • Hello Alice,

I cleaned the SFC Cache file, removed the SIP profile and trace data, performed a clean boot and while I do see the latest KB applied for Skype the application version does not change in the help > about for skype.

I have been able to apply the June KB 3203382 using WSUS.

When I check the task manager I see lync.exe 32 bit running 16.0.456.1000     (update has applied)

When I check the skype application help > about the version is 16.0.4498.1000  (update is not displaying)

  • Hi Fred,

I've been experiencing the same issue for a while until recently. Installing the client updates would never change the client version visually under Help > About Skype For Business but were successfully being installed, very annoying.

We have recently installed the latest 16.0.4549.1000 security update and the client version has changed. I'd be interested to know if once you install 16.0.4549.1000 you are also able to see the change of version visually within the client?

  • It seems this is a bug in the Skype Application, per Microsoft support.

I applied the KB32023382 32 bit version update as of 13th June 2017 and the version should be 16.0.4546.1000 but still shows the RTM version. A few devices do show 16.0.4498.1002 version 7 FEB 2017 update. While in the most recent KB has been applied.
