SfB federation doubt RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I will explain a scenario, please help me resolving this silly doubt:

CompanyA has SfB On-Premises, and has configured CompanyB as federated domain.

CompanyB has SfB On-Premises, but they does NOT configure CompanyA as federated domain.

I know that both companies must federated each other, but what is the behaviour if one of them dos not configure the other?? in the explained scenario:

    • Do CompanyA users see availability of CompanyB users?
    • Do CompanyB users see availability of CompanyA users?

Generally speaking, when domain is declared as federated in one SfB platform, the direction is outbound (let local users try to communicate with federated users), inbound (let federated users to communicate the local users) or bidirectional??

    Thanks!

Answers

  • No, if one of the partner has not activate the federation you will not see the presence and you cannot contact the other user directly.

Only if the other partner has configured an open federation.

  • Hi SKM12,

Welcome to post in our forum.

    Yes, agree with Holger.

In your environment, if you want to do federation between company A and company B, company A and company B need to federate each other, if not, the federation will not be successfully unless you set the federation type as open.

SFB federation has the following four types:

    Discovered Partner Domain

    Allowed Partner Domain

    Allowed Partner Server

Hosting Provider and Public IM Provider
