  • Question

  • Hello.

In Windows XP, I can see a lot of "svchost.exe" in "processes" tab and I want to know is it normal? I scanned my system for Virus and it is clean.

    Any idea?

    Thank you.

  • Hi Windows.Geek.

The svchost process is a container that hosts services used by Windows itself and by applications running on the system and there can be more than one running instance of that process during the system's uptime.
Download and run Process Explorer, hover the mouse over each svchost instance and you'll see a tooltip listing all the services hosted within that instance: then you can decide to deactivate some services (using the Windows Services console) if they're not necessary or changing their startup type setting.

    Bye.
