Is tighter integration of R and Office tools to be expected? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I teach a number of R courses and one question that keeps popping up (especially in a marketing and business analytic setup) is how to get R's output into the proper Excel formats and other Office tools the company uses. This can be done using a variety of third party packages like XLConnect, writexl and the likes. But these solution still require quite a setup. It is now possible to call R from within Excel as well, but also that is not straightforward to set up for the average user.

Hence my question: are there plans of creating a tool that makes using Office tools as integrated and straightforward as working with RMarkdown for automatic reporting? That would be a great selling point to incorporate R into the toolchain used now as opposed to use more appropriate combinations like markdown/latex/... for creating a toolchain.
