Upgrade Path/Instructions - SharePoint, OWA, Workflow

    Question

  • Hi-

I have a farm that is a bit out of date and would like to get it current.  What is my best path to get current from the following versions:

    SharePoint Server 2013:  15.0.4569.1506

    Office Web Apps: 15.0.4571.1502

    Workflow Manager: 1.0.40131.2

    Any direction/guidance would be appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Jesse

  • For SharePoint, you can upgrade to any CU, including the March 2017 CU directly. For OWA, same deal (except they're security updates although function as CUs). Don't forget to rebuild the OWA farm post-patch as is required with all OWA patches.

For WFM, apply CU3 to the client/server. You may also want to update to Azure ServiceBus 1.1 + security update. The updates for these products can just be applied over the top with no other work necessary.

Lastly, also consider updating AppFabric to the latest patch at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3199763/hotfix-3199763-is-available-for-microsoft-appfabric-1.1-for-windows-server.

  • Thanks Trevor - you have simplified this for me much more than I was expecting.  I was concerned that I would have to hop to a Service Pack, to a CU, to another Service Pack because it is so out of date.

    Thanks,

    Jesse
