Strange disk related errors in event log on Essentials TP4 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi!

I get lots error 3 from FilterManager

Filter Manager failed to attach to volume '\Device\Harddisk2\DR38'.  This volume will be unavailable for filtering until a reboot.  The final status was 0xC03A001C.

The last part of the device path varies, I have DR38, DR31, DR25, DR24, DR18, DR17, DR10, DR9 and DR3. The Harddisk2 part is the same though. In total 58 events over the weekend.

I also have warning 51 from disk, 6 over teh weekend.

An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk2\DR37 during a paging operation.

    Here I have DR37, DR36, DR30, DR23, DR9, and DR2.

I have one harddisk in this system, and one USB disk. They appear as Disk 0 and Disk 1 in diskpart and Disk Management.

The times seem to correspond to Server Backup Schedule.

Anyone have any ideas what the problem might be?

  • Hi,

Click on the event’s Details tab in Event Viewer. Click the plus sign (+) next to System and scroll down to see /remember the ProcessID.

Open Task Manager to find the process name which is corresponding to this Process ID (PID), then stop this process to confirm the result.

In particular cases, you can safely ignore the log entries, and no additional action is required. Reference KB 244780:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/244780

Besides, I would recommend you to check the health of hardware via “chkdsk /f” or tools provided by manufacturer.

If the problem persists, please provide the Disk Management, or “diskpart” with “list disk”.

    Best Regards,

  • I used wbadmin to 'Backup Once', and I got three events. The process is smphost, Microsoft Storage Spaces SMP. One change is that now the volume is '\Device\Harddisk3\DR11'.

    DISKPART> list disk

Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt
      -------- ------------- ------- ------- --- ---
      Disk 0 Online 931 GB 0 B *
      Disk 1 Online 931 GB 19 MB *
      Disk 2 Online 14 GB 0 B

    DISKPART>

Disk 0 is the system disk, SATA on the mother board.

Disk 1 is a USB disk used for Windows Server Backup.

Disk 2 is USB key that I plugged in yesterday. It was not present when the errors said Harddisk2.

I have no storage spaces defined.
