Need to recover users (Profile) data from failed system. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello, I recently had my Vista Home version crash on me. It looks like I may need to replace a faulty motherboard. I made a backup a couple of days earlier with Acronis True Image. So I am safe as far as getting my stuff back. I do have the image.

My questions is: Once I re-install Vista after the motherboard replacement, how do I restore my (Profile) with all my data intact from within my image? I cant just restore the entire image since the hardware has now changed. To retain the Profile, can you just copy and overwrite the profile user folder with my old one? Or is their a way to safely restore the Profile data with a utility or such from image or backup? I know the (File and Transfer Settings Wizard) will not work as that requires the utility to be used prior to this. I am sure this is a common problem. This question also applies to XP Pro as I have had that happen with XP as well.

    Thanks guys!
