MS Project PRO vs Standard RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I want to buy MS project, but I dont now what I should buy, pro or standard. On website: https://products.office.com/en/Project/compare-microsoft-project-management-software is a comparison between Pro and Standard.  Everything is clear besides "Resource management", What does it mean ?

I want to use MS Project only on local computer with full options, but without  features like Project Server, Skype, Sharepoint, project online. Is there any additional feature, which is available in pro and  not available in standard ?Pro version is 2 times more expensive, so I want to choice wisedecision.

Is there a trial version of MS Project standard ?

  • Hi,

for your second question: yes, no issue using different versions for the same file. Only if someone uses one of the missing features, you will just not see ist. From all differences between the versions, you may only interested in two missing features:

    • Team Planner view
    • Inactive Tasks

Here a description for 2010, but the differences are still the same - to my knowledge: http://todaysproject.com/content/project-professional-2010-vs-project-standard/

  • One more question.

If I save the file in the Standard version will open it without problem in the Pro version, and vice versa?

  • Hi,

as long as you don't use ProjectServer I would go for the Standard Version. I think Resource Management means the possibility to plan and schedule People in multiproject Management on Project Server.
