How to increase the number of VSS RRS feed

  • Can anyone advise how to increase the number of Volume Shadow copies being taken on Windows Server 2003 as we want to increase the number of copies as at the moment it only keeps the last 3 days and we want to increase to 14 days.

    Select the volume, go to properties and increase the schedule to desired level.

    Configuration step:Right click the volume>Properties>Shadow Copies>Select the volume>Settings>Schedule>Advanced>Enter start date and end date according to you configuration.

  • The schedule will determine the frequency at which snapshots will be taken, but in order to store more snapshots you will need to increase the space that VSS will be allowed to use.

    The "maximum size" setting ( see volume>Properties>Shadow Copies) will determine the maximum amount of disk space which VSS will use for snapshots.  Once the maximum has been reached, Windows will drop the oldest snapshots to free up space for the new snapshot.
