Vista installation did not create Windows.old RRS feed

  • Question

  • I installed Vista as an upgrade on a test system.  I discovered it is not compatible with some of our systems.  The installation did not create a Windows.old folder.  I would like to restore XP if possible without reformatting.  Any ideas?

  • Windows.old folder is created only if it's a clean install on the previous XP partition. You're out of luck as far as I know! Maybe someone else knows more?

  • Thanks for the reply.  The odd thing is that the installation appeared to go very well!

  • Thats the way windows vista installation works. if the installation is succesfull you will not see any windows.old but if installation is not sucessfull without giving user any option the upgrade will roll over to previous operating system...during installation it actually creates restore points and once it finishes it deletes those restore points. This does not require any user intervention.
