Cannot access user profile in MySite when using FBA for both main and MySite RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello

I have a "slight problem" with my current setup.

Current environment is MOSS 07 Standard.

    Main Web application is http://mainsite.teams.com

MySite has been setup and url is http://mysite.teams.com

Both sites have been extended and configured to use Forms Based Authentication. User Profiles have been imported via SSP, that imports via the Form Based Authentication Provider.

When a user logs onto the main site (http://mainsite.teams.com), they are able to login. They then navigate to the "People and Groups : All People" section to view a list of "people".  When they click on any of the user, the webpage then takes them to the MySite web application as seen in the URL of the webpage (http://mysite.teams.com) but calling the Person.aspx?accountname=xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Error then appears "Access is denied" Error message 401.2

I have tried to understand the nature of this issue and discovered the following. If upon seeing this error, I would browse to the MySite base URL (http://mysite.teams.com) and the login form would appear. I could then login (site setup as FBA). I get an error but that is fine because I have disabled Creating Personal Sites options in SSP. Once "login" to MySite (via FBA), go back and visit the main web application (http://mainsite.teams.com), browse to the "People and Groups : All People" section and click on any user's link.

The browser then goes to MySite web applicaiton and display the user's information without errors.

My Question is : when the user has not log into the MySite web application, browse a user's profile information (Link) in the main site, why does it not redirect back to the MySite Login page to challenge the user for their credentials (instead of displaying an error on the page) and then display the user information upon successful log into the MySite web application?

Am I missing some settings or customised parts?

    Appreciate any advise.

  • On your MySite did you configure user profiles from AD accounts or it is from FBA database?

If its from AD user accounts then definitely FBA users get Access denied as there is no such FBA user profiles configured for MySite.

  • Depends.

Extend Web application of MySite is set with FBA, using LDAP provider to access AD accounts. SSP is set to import user accounts with customised Provider - similar to accounts retrieved via LDAP provider.
