Download readlog.exe to review log files from Lync Phone edition devices RRS feed

    I'm looking for an easy and quick download of the readlog.exe file to convert the clg files from the Lync Phone devices to text files.   Documentation says to find it on the WinCE builder or SDK.   

    I've tried several components and the file is not there or it states I need to install every other developer tool MS has.   I just want to troubleshoot a lync phone device (Polycom).   MS should have included this with Lync.

    If someone can help provide a direct download that would be great.

    I've also looked for this everywhere and it no longer appears to be included in any currently available download package on TechNet or MSDN.  But I've used it to view the device files and there is basically nothing in those logs that help with any sort of troubleshooting.  The data is cryptic and almost entirely numerical.

    You are much better off looking at server logs and running network traces.

    Well, you already mentioned my first go-to response, wildcard certificates.  But the odd thing is that it is not all devices, so I would look at identifying what is different between a working and failing device (firmware version, network location, user's home pool, etc) as all the devices of the same model should behave identically.

    Be aware that the CX600 will only connect to Exchange after using USB tethering, so if some devices are logged in via tether but others are only using PIN Authentication then that right there would be a potential explanation.

    Hey Jeff,

    Thanks for the response.   Good to know that I'm not losing my mind in not being able to find this software.   :>

    I'm actually trying to troubleshoot an issue with connectivity from polycom cx600 and cx700 devices not being able to connect to exchange at a customer site.  Not all devices are having the issue.   Still pending info from the customer but I think they are all running the April Phone edition version.

    I'm waiting to hear back if they are using wild card certs for exchange.  They do have SAN certs for Lync.  

    I found this article by Mike Stacey which does show cert errors in those logs which I was hoping to be able to look at.

    Can you provide me the readlog.exe for reading the Polycom Device Log File? I can't find any Logviewer for reading this file.

    here you are. Download quickly, as i cannot even guess what kind of horrible licensing violation the upload of this enterprise-grade utility may cause (sarcasm off :) )

    Ps. I saved it to like 5 independent locations, as it was a nightmare to find this sh*t. Finally found it in some developer kit, I cannot even remember where and how. By the way I doubt you will find it useful...

    FYI Polycom has nothing to do with the logfiles :)  They are Windows CE .clg files and are pretty cryptic even too me.  Rarely do I get anything worth while out of them, unless there are authentication or other major errors that I usually resolve before having to resort to looking at these logs anyways.

    To acquire readlog legitimately you can do the following:

    1. download the setup for "Windows Embedded CE 6.0 Evaluation Edition" from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20083
    2. register to get your license key from here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsembedded/en-us/downloads/download-windows-embedded-ce-6-trial.aspx (you'll need a live id at this step)
    3. install the setup from step 1 using the key from step 2.
    4. after it has finished downloading and installing the readlog tool can be found in the "C:\WINCD600\PUBLIC\COMMON\OAK\BIN\I386" folder!

    Why Microsoft haven't made this available as part of the lync resource kit is anybody's guess :(
