Active users can't be found in directory when accessing SharePoint online site RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

We are getting below error while accessing SharePoint online site for active users (internal as well as external):

We are sorry, but user can't be found in the directory. Please try again later, while we try to automatically fix that for you.

Users have Read access on the SharePoint site and are active users.

    Please suggest some solution.

    Thanks,

    Sonali

  • Hi

Have you tried to input the full user name like xxx@domain.onmicrosoft.com?

  • Hi,

In our case for external user, email address is correct which has accepted the user invitation. Still he is getting the error.

  • Hi MSDN,

Can you ask external user to use incognito windows for accessing your tenant sharepoint site, this might be a cache problem from external user side.

and if still he face the same issue, then re-share the site to him and check the behavior.

  • Hi,

Does this issue happen to all external users or just some of them? Is there any internal user encountering the same issue?

Please follow the steps below for basic troubleshooting:

    1. Navigate to All People list via https://<siteURL>/_layouts/15/people.aspx?MembershipGroupId=0 and check if the issued external user is listed there. If yes, remove the user.

    2. Navigate to Classic SharePoint admin center > user profiles > Manage User Profiles and delete the user’s profile.

    3. Re-add the external user to SharePoint Online site group via Site permissions > Advanced permissions settings. Give the user different permission other than Read such as Contribute, or add the user to a different site collection to see if the same issue will occur.

    Best regards,
