Question about App/Desktop Sharing Between internal Lync Clients RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,We have lync 2013 front end pools.

Is there anyway to set that Internal lync clients use specific ports when sharing desktop/App (Only between internal(LAN) Lync clients)

(Lync clients Version 2010 and 2013)

    Thanks in advance.

  • It shouldn't be an issue.  Those ranges are for client traffic only, not the servers, and with a range of 5350 to 5389, it's extremely unlikely anyone could have enough app sharing sessions to run out of ports.

  • Yes, you'd use the set-csconferencingconfiguration command, Lync 2010 and 2013 should respect it.

It would look something like this if you wanted to turn it on for every policy:

    Get-CsConferencingConfiguration | Set-CsConferencingConfiguration -ClientMediaPortRangeEnabled $True
    Get-CsConferencingConfiguration | Set-CsConferencingConfiguration -ClientAudioPort 50020 -ClientAudioPortRange 20 -ClientVideoPort 58000 -ClientVideoPortRange 20 -ClientAppSharingPort 42000 -ClientAppSharingPortRange 20 - ClientFileTransferPort 42020 -ClientFileTransferPortRange 20

That would set app sharing to ports 42000 to 42019.  It also sets ports for other modalities, which you'd want since they might otherwise overlap.

  • Perfect, thanks

In the other hand...if i restrict the ports to any range (suppose 5350 - 5389) ...will have any "of saturation" problems with desktop sharing , app sharing , audio/video ? ..

We have about 5000 clients in the internal LAN...if i restrict the port range..it will affect ?
