Search scopes in SharePoint 2013 RRS feed

  • Question

  • First of all, I am very much a begginer when it comes to SharePoint, but I need to do some reasearch for our senir SharePoint admins.

Here is our problem - we use SP2010. On all our sites, we have search boxes with drop down menus. When you do a search, you can click on the drop down menu and click on the scope of your search - like "search only department shares" or "search only personal share". In SP2010, we know how to configure those search scopes, and we know how to configure the drop down menu.

However, we are switching to SP2013 tonight for our Intranet, and while our search works fine (click in the box, type whatever, results come up, indexing is working), we don't know how to set up the equivalent of search scopes in SP2013, nor how to do the drop down box with those scopes. What we learned so far is that "Results Sources" have replaced scopes, but we are not sure how to use them.

Any ideas on how to replicate Search Scopes using Result Sources, and how to set drop down menus on sites?

    Thanks!
