User in SharePoint Group Cannot Access Folder

    Question

  • Good afternoon.

    1. I have a SharePoint Group - let's called it Mktg. Allison and Nancy are members of Mktg.
    2. I have a SharePoint folder - let's call it Vouchers. Mktg has Visitor access to Vouchers. Allison can access Vouchers, but Nancy cannot.
    3. I viewed the list of permissions assigned to Vouchers, and Mktg was listed. I clicked "Check Permissions" to view access rights that Mkgt has to Vouchers; SharePoint indicated that Mktg has Read permissions (Given directly).
    4. I then clicked "Check Permissions" to view access rights that Nancy has to Vouchers. SharePoint indicated that Nancy has no access rights to Vouchers.
    5. I removed Nancy from Mktg and then added her back.
    6. I then clicked "Check Permissions" to view access rights that Nancy has to Vouchers. SharePoint now indicates that Nancy has Read access provided through the "Mktg" group.

This has occurred with several users across several different groups.

      1. What causes this to occur?
      2. How can we prevent it from occurring in the future?
      3. What gets reset when we remove a user from a group and re-add him/her?

      Thank you.
