  • Check SQL server and make sure that your account and the farm admin account has access to the project databases.

    this might be a little late - but I went through the error several times -

    Update: Success!!!

    It seems the solution to the DatabaseInUse error (show below) is to use a different database name.  I had used the same database name several times.  When I tried to use a different database name on the ConvertTo-SpProjectDatabase command - I got the Are you sure you want to perform this.

  • Really, changing the name of ProjectServiceDBName did work ! I had removed the old ProjectServiceDBName before doing this, but it seemed to be registered somewhere and even restarting the DB server didn't get rid of it. So we have to change it to another new name !

    Thank you for posting it. It helped me after a lot of time struggling to understand why it kept complaining Database is in use whole 4 of the restored files are new.
