a little help for new sys admin RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

    Good Day!

I'm new here and hoping to get a few tips and/or guide on how am I going to do my new project. this might be very simple to an experienced Sys Admin.

atm, I have 1 DC/DNS/Ex from our small company and we have decided to purchase 3 NEW rack server (proper server) coz all we got is a tower server.

Please do correct me if i'm wrong but what I have decided is to put ADDS/DNS/DHCP for 1 server, 1 for our exchange 2007 server and 1 for FS server.

I already established my first server which is my DC (AD, DNS, DHCP) but im having a problem on how to do it with my Ex2007 with different Machine.

    sorry for the trouble.

    Cheers!

  • I would prefer the CCR as you will have two diffrent set of database copies and the redundancy at the server level. But you need to decide if you really want the cluster for 50 people as it would depend on the availability requirement of the oranization.

  • a. from the Exchange server do I have to install Active directory domain services or not?

It’s not required and more over it’s not recommended to run Domain Controller role on an Exchange Server

    b. When I create a new email will it integrate my AD from my existing DC like if I click on "existing" will it show all the user on my active directory that doesn't have mailbox yet?

If your new box is joined to Existing AD and you try to install the Exchange it will be installed in your Existing AD and it will show existing users.

  • Hi, for your query , it really depends upon requirement that how you wann go forward like what all Exchange server roles you really required in your org and what type of exchange clustering you need ( LCR/SCC/CCR). So please go through the basics as below will help you ..

  • for the exchange requirement, we only need mailbox (email) for like 50 people (which is what we have atm) and OWA and/or outlook anywhere for outside access. for exchange clustering to be honest I havent decided yet coz as I said we have an existing exchange server and this server is not even on RAID.... we only back up thru external drive and so to speak.... :(

for a small org like this? which clustering is more suitable... btw, our org doesn't received hundreds and thousands of emails hmm maybe a hundred or 2?

all tips and suggestion are welcome...
