  • Having trouble changing actual start date of a task from N/A to date. Date is not accepted.  Has anyone seen this or know of a workaround?

  • SheliaR,

A little more information is needed before we can be of much help. First of all, what version of Project are you using? Does it have the latest service pack installed?

What exactly do you mean that the date in not accepted? Do you get an error message?

If using Project 2010, are you using manual scheduling mode or auto scheduling mode?

  • Sheila, just to make sure we're talking about the same thing, you have a project open in Project Standard or Project Professional. You are looking at the Gantt Chart view and have inserted the column for Actual Start. You have selected a detailed task (not a summary task) and are trying to type a date into the Actual Start date cell - but the date is being rejected. Yes?

One obvious question - is the date in the right format? Have a look at the other dates in the project and make sure you're using the right format (mm/dd/yy or dd/mm/yy). Are you trying to type a time of day in as well (possible but the format needs to be right)?

What happens if you use the drop down tool to select a date from the calendar view rather than typing it in?

Depending on the management processes in your shop, you may want a more formal way of entering Actual dates - e.g. using the Update Tasks dialog box or Update Assignment status.
