Windows Update error 800736B3

    Question

  • I have a computer that has been failing to install the IE cumulative updates. It is now also failing to install the bundled security updates (KB3192391 for example). I have tried the system readiness tool, clearing out the database, manually installing, removing/re-adding IE from Windows features, and running SFC scan. I cannot find a solution for error 800736B3. Anyone know any other things I can do?

    This is for a business computer. Would I qualify for free Microsoft support? If I do, how do I start that process?

  • for MS support you can call your local MS landline and ask to log  support ticket. you will be charged according to their terms and conditions.

    also the community here can help if you prefer. 

    would you share some information? like is it only one PC that is having this issue or multiple machines?

    also are you updating from internet direct or through WSUS or SCCM setup? 

    OS versions?...etc

    all these details would help a lot actually

    We could perform a Clean Boot and try disabling your anti-virus and see if it works.

    If the issue still insists, we could check the Windows Update.log. It is located in the C://Windows/Windows Update.log.

    This is happening to just one PC. Windows 7 Pro 64bit. The update was originally deployed with WSUS but I also tried manually installing it with no success.

    I looked at the links you provided. I will have to do a clean boot as that is one thing I have not tried. Nothing in the second link applies to me as none of the symptoms apply to me. 

    I also looked at the update log and it provides no other insight other than the same error code
