How to momve Site Collection in Content Database RRS feed

  • Hi,

    I'm trying to copy the content Database of my site.
    It has 15 site collection and i just need to copy 1 on of it.

    What I want to do is to Split the Content Database and move the site collection I need in the from the old content database to the new content database.

    Is there a way to move my site collection on my Content Database?

    I was wondering if I can do it on stsadm command or in the central admin.

  • Hi,

     

    You can do this using stsadm mergecontentdbs command.

    1.  you need to get the list of site collection to .xml using enumsites command

    2. Edit the .xml file and keep only the site colletions that you want move to new content DB.

    3. run stsadm -o Mergecontentdbs with operation 3 command to move the site colletion which are in .xml file to new content databse name

     Eg: stsadm -o mergecontentdbs -url http://<servername> -sourcedatabasename WSS_Content_1 -destinationdatabasename WSS_Content_2 -operation 3 -filename sites.xml

  • Stsadm command-line tool allows to take the  back up of the site collection and restore in the new web application using the following commands

      

    To back up a site collection, you must use the following stsadm command.

     stsadm -o backup -url <URL of the site collection> - filename <Name of the bckup file>

    Restore

    To restore a site collection, you must use the following Stsadm command.

     stsadm -o restore -url <URL of the site collection> - filename <Name of the bckup file>
