Move DPM to new server with new OS RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have 1 DPM server running Server 2008 R2.   We need to migrate it to new hardware and would prefer to update the OS to 2012 R2 at the same time.

I understand that backing up that database and migrating it require the same OS on the old and new system, is that correct?

Any recommendations on how to handle this?  We aren't totally against just wiping the old one and having the new one use a new database.  It would just take some time to rebuild all the backups and we'd lose a week of backups too.   (the new one will use the same storage as the old one, so we can't keep the old disk backups around when the new one is building new ones)

Thanks for any help with this.

  • Has no one done this before?

  • You could try the technet instructions "Move DPM to  new server with different settings"
You don't need to use the database backup for this method.  You could keep the old DPM server around for a little while in case you need that backup data.

  • Hi,

best will be to transfer your SCDPM to the new Server with the sam OS.

Afterwards, everything is ok, make an Operating System Upgrade to Windows Server 2012 R2. :

    thats the supported way
