unable to copy site from one place to another RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello all,

We have several country websites under one site collection in MOSS2007.

We found that the site admin of each country website failing to copy website from one place to another even though they have full control.

We found this KB, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2015265, stating that "copy site" action requires site collection level admin right .

However, we do not want to grant all local country webmaster site collection level admin for sure... while we still wish they could use "copy site" function.

    Anyone knows any walk around?

    Thanks,

    MyST

  • Other workaround would be saving the site as a template (with (If the size of the site is less than 10 MB.) or without content). Your site admins can save the sub-site as a template and re-use the saved template to create further sub-sites.

Note: Make sure, your site admins have Contribute/Design access to Site Collection site templates gallery. Else they cannot save the site as a template.

  • Hi MySTtt,

As the KB2015265 mentioned, Only site collection administrators can successfully copy sites. This is involves major security repercussions within SharePoint.

If you want to copy sites within a site collection, please just use Kolan's suggestion, save site as a template. Then users with create site permission could be able to create a site using this template.

    Best regards,
    Emir

  • Hello,

    Thanks for your reply!

However, I didnt understand why site admin with full control is not allowed to do website copy inside the site.. since whatever CU applied to MOSS2007.

From business point of view, local site admin does wish to have "copy" function.. why remove it from MOSS2007?
