Unexplainable hits in the results RRS feed

  • Question

  • We get some results we can't explain why are there. Like, we search for "rocket" and get one hit where the term "rocket" is not in the document. There are no synonyms defined. I'm also checking the FAST-server using the interface there, and the result shows for the serachterm "rocket", but the word is not in the returned XML. Not any stemmed version either (e.g. ro-rock-rock-rocke is not in the document either.)

    Does it exist some weird autosynonymthing in FAST?

    Is there a way to check why the resulting item is returned?

  • If you execute the search against the QR server (http://localhost:13280), do you see anything in the query rewrite which can explain this?

  • No, I don't, but I'm no expert at this. Here it is, if that can help:

    <QUERYTRANSFORMS>
      <QUERYTRANSFORM NAME="Original query" ACTION="NOP" QUERY="rocket" CUSTOM="" MESSAGE="Original query" MESSAGEID="1" />
      <QUERYTRANSFORM NAME="FastQT_Keyword" ACTION="Suggested new query" QUERY="rocket" CUSTOM="<KeywordData />" MESSAGE="Keyword processing" MESSAGEID="1" INSTANCE="keyword" />
      <QUERYTRANSFORM NAME="FastQT_Lemmatizer" ACTION="nop" QUERY="" CUSTOM="No change to query" MESSAGE="Lemmatization turned off for current query" MESSAGEID="16" INSTANCE="lemmatizer" />
      <QUERYTRANSFORM NAME="Final query" ACTION="NOP" QUERY="and(filter(or("docacl":string("all"), "docacl":string("unknown")), annotation_class="invisible", annotation_class="sam"), xrank(xrank(xrank(xrank(xrank(xrank(xrank(xrank(string("rocket"), "malnavn":string("artikkel", mode="phrase", linguistics="off"), boostall="no", boost=int("180")), "format":string("unknown format", mode="phrase", linguistics="off"), "format":string("microsoft excel", mode="phrase", linguistics="off"), "format":string("xml document", mode="phrase", linguistics="off"), "fileextension":string("csv", mode="phrase", linguistics="off"), "fileextension":string("zip", mode="phrase", linguistics="off"), "fileextension":string("rtf", mode="phrase", linguistics="off"), "fileextension":string("vsd", mode="phrase", linguistics="off"), "fileextension":string("oft", mode="phrase", linguistics="off"), "fileextension":string("msg", mode="phrase", linguistics="off"), "fileextension":string("txt", mode="phrase", linguistics="off"), "isemptylist":string("true", mode="phrase", linguistics="off"), "islistitem":string("true", mode="phrase", linguistics="off"), boostall="no", boost=int("-4000")), "status":string("expired", mode="phrase", linguistics="off"), boostall="no", boost=int("-10000")))" CUSTOM="FQL" MESSAGE="Final query" MESSAGEID="1" />

  • You need to ninja it up a notch. Take a look at this post: http://www.neilrichards.net/blog/?p=100.

    It involves monitoring the query logs and copying the query over to the QR server link within a 15 seconds time frame.

  • tarjeieo,

    Can you check for the term "rocket" in the FIXML of the result document? The FIXML of an indexed document can be reviewed using the scipt posted here.

    Good Luck!!!
