Show filter choices on list gives error <!-- #RENDER FAILED --> RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a custom list with about 1200 records.  If I sort on other fields, such as first name, I get a list at the bottom that shows a scrollable list of the first names.  If I try this with last name, I only have the option "Show Filter Choices".  Choosing this gives me the error <!-- #RENDER FAILED -->.  How can I fix this?

    Thanks

  • Hi dmikhail,

    Maybe you can get rid of this error by following these steps:

    1.       Edit the page showing list items.

    2.       Add Content Editor Web part on it.

    3.       Add below script in Source Editor

    <script src="ajax.googleapis.com/.../jquery.min.js" type= "text/javascript">
    </script>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function collapseGroups() {
    $("img[src='/_layouts/images/minus.gif']:visible").parent().click();
    }
    _spBodyOnLoadFunctionNames.push("collapseGroups");
    </script>

    4.       Save the Content.

    5.       Exit from the page Edit Mode

    6.       Go to list settings and edit default view settings

    7.       Select the option 'Expanded'

    8.       Click on 'Ok' to save the settings.

    9.       Now open the page to display all items of list. It should show you collapsed view of all items.

    Hope this could help you.

  • To remove the error, edit the view and expand the group by option and select the groupings as "Expanded" and click ok.

    or test it first by creating a new view and chek the behaviour

    Create a view by Clicking on Setting --> List Settings --> Create View --
    >Standard View

  • Thanks for the answers.  I had tried that fix with the expanded, and I tried again with a new view altogether, but no luck.  I tried to apply the patch but it said expected software not found.  We are using 2007, sp2, 64 bit.

  • You have a SharePoint list that has more than 500 items. The list has a column of "People and Groups" type with the "Allow multiple selections" setting set to "Yes". If you click Show Filter Choices in this list, you receive the following error message:

    Note: I had a migrated content from MOSS 2007 to SharePoint 2010 with database attach and only the old grouped views had the problem
