  • the installion location is the default installion path - C:\Program Files\Update Services

2014-05-05 12:05:33  System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for 'Microsoft.UpdateServices.Internal.UtilConstants' threw an exception. ---> System.IO.InvalidDataException: Invalid installation directory

Looks like the same error to me.

Or, maybe the error is misleading in the wording it uses, and it's actually about the content store, which was specified in the previous log entry:

    2014-05-05 12:05:33  Start: GetConfigValue with filename=UpdateServices-Services.xml item=ContentLocal

Did you *CREATE* the E:\WSUS folder, or is the installer attempting to create it?

And still, we have the issue of attempting to install to a Domain Controller.

  • Delete the IIS site and retry installation.

    1. Your photo wasn't attached; probably because your account is not yet validated. No worries; photo not needed.

    2. You're trying to install WSUS to a WS2012R2 Domain Controller. Q.E.D. (This forum is chock full of conversations about this scenario; try a search.)

    3. The error message "Invalid installation directory" begs the question... where are you trying to install WSUS to?

How exactly are you doing this.

WSUS does not support installation to any location other than %ProgramFiles%.

Please do not confuse the installation folder with the ~\WSUS folder. The latter is not the installation folder, merely the storage location of the database and content store.
