  • I have a black screen after downloading windows update and am unable to type anything into the start menu

  • In a pinch you can access recovery features including System Restore by pressing F8 during bootup just as your power on self test completes.

    You should see the following screen:

     

    Choose the entry highlighted above.  You will have to answer a dialog and log in, then you should see these options:

  • Rather than repair computer or do it the long way try this a nice short way:

    Go to Run > type "cmd.exe" > then type "sfc /scannow

    This gets rid of errors.

     

    Go to Control Panel > Windows Update > *Top Bar* Installed Updates and remove any updates you recently installed or system restore
