Windows Search not appearing in Group policy

    Question

  • Hi

I cannot find "Search" under Windows Components in Group Policy

We are running Windows 2012 R2.

    Any idea why?

Answers

  • Hi,

It could be that the Windows Search Administrative template - search.admx/search.adml are not included in the "PolicyDefinitions" folder.

Try to download the latest Administrative Templates for Windows Server 2012 R2 from the link below, then copy the "search.admx" file into "%systemroot%\policyDefinitions" and "search.adml" from "en-us" folder into "%systemroot%\policyDefinitions\en-us":

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=41193

If you are using Central Store, then the default location of the templates should be "%systemroot%\sysvol\domain\policies\PolicyDefinitions" and "%systemroot%\sysvol\domain\policies\PolicyDefinitions" instead.
