Windows 8 File Explorer - properties displayed on right hand side ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Recently on Windows 8 file explorer some details started to be displayed on the right hand side.  They can be best described as a large icon with some file information like how many files are stored or what type of file they are.

Does anyone know how to remove this icon and information.  I find it quite annoying and cannot remove via any of the settings.

  • Sounds like you might have enabled the Preview or Details pane.

In Windows Explorer, click the "View" tab in the Ribbon.  In the "Pane" segment on the left side of the Ribbon, unclick either Preview Pane or Details Pane (whichever is highlighted) and it should go back to "normal".

  • You solved my problem - thank you - but on my version I had to click the "details pane" or "preview pane" just to the left of the navigation pane.
