Restore under Vista 64 bit RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm seeing a problem with restoring files backed up with Vista's tool.

After successfully backing up to DVD media from Vista's Backup tool to a external USB 2.0      DVD writer (Pioneer DVR-X122), going back to the Backup/ Restore in Vista, it shows I successfully backed up on a certain date the entire C drive. As one would expect.

However going to Restore, and trying to select the backup that I just created, the option to restore from media is not available? Am I only allowed to restore from the recovery option?

Confused if this is a broken piece in Vista or not?

Why would the backup tile show that I successfully backed up on some such date, then clicking the Restore tab, the option to restore is inactive?

    Documentation anywhere is totally lacking.

    Please advise.

    All the best,

  • I found out how it works. The backup DVD's can only be used from the Vista restore console.

My hard drive died last night and I had a spare dupe Seagate SATA 160 gig.

The backup image I made on the 26th of June restored perfectly.

I'm very impressed with Microsoft's Backup and Restore option!!

    End of thread.
