Exchange 2013 Hybrid Server patching best practices

    Question

  • Hi

We have Exchange 2010 with Hybrid setup to Office 365. The on-premise servers are with Exchange 2010 and two Exchange 2013 Hybrid servers are there and we have few users moved to Office 365 and everything working fine,

Now we would like to install latest CU for Exchange 2013 servers. What would be the impact while installing CU on Hybrid servers?

Will there by any impact to cloud users, mail flow, free busy, mailtips and etc?

Well, there is really no such thing as a "Hybrid Server". Having said that, you should be applying the latest CUs to a server as prudently as possible to remain supported in a hybrid scenario. ( You have to be at the latest CU or previous CU to be supported)

    • On-premises Exchange releases Hybrid deployments require the latest cumulative update or update rollup available for the version of Exchange you have installed in your on-premises organization. If you can't install the latest cumulative update or update rollup, the immediately previous release is also supported. Older cumulative updates or update rollups aren't supported.

As to impact, upgrading the on-prem servers generally have no affect on anything you may have in 365.

  • Hi,

I have a DAG 2013 in Hybrid mode and I am not using latest CU. No problems until know and users are using resources between two environments.

Sharing calendars, rooms and others resources are being used without restrictions.
