No drive letter on my external Hard Drive. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have this laptop HD of 120Gb. I place it on the pc using a sata to usb cable and I connected to the Laptop and made a backup of 3 folders on it and took 10GB for the backup. After the files were transfer I turn off the external HD.

I tried to put back some pictures from the external HD again on the Laptop and Windows do not assign a drive letter to the HD. I have gone searching for solutions and all of them are abaut changing the current drive letter or Make id a Drive letter specific. That not my issue, My problem is Windows doeas not assign any drive letter but it does recornize the HD. I have gone to Disk Management and the usb HD is there with no drive letter also recornize that is  120GB and that 10GB has been use but i cant get to the files because it doesnt appear on my computer because does not have a drive letter.

    Any solutions for this? PLease?

  • Hi,

    You may try the following.

    1. Go to Disk Management.

    2. Select the drive which is without letter.

    3. Right click it and choose “Change drive letter and Paths…”

    4. Click Add…

    5. Then, please assign a letter.

    6. Click OK.
