User editable global address list with external email contacts. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We are having an Exchange 2007 Server organization. Is it possible to have a globally available and editable address list for the all users /or any privileged users; wherein the user is able to add external email address contacts to the address list without having to log in to the server and use the exchange management console.

I heard in exchange 2010 we have a provision for that using exchange control panel access for the users. Is there any alternative way in exchange 2007 or some work around to do this?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Kuriachen.

  • AFAIK that is not possible. You could use Exchange Powershell remotely as a workaround

  • Hi,

GC hosts GAL. GAL is a collect of  basic attributes of  all AD objects.

So editing GAL  is same as editing AD attributes.

GAL is stored in AD Schema database. If you want to edit GAL, you must have schema admins group permission.

In Exchange 2010, grand user recipient management role will allow the user modify GAL.

After modify AD attributes, you need to update GAL.

  • What you mentioned procedure is unable to do.

You can only use the Exchange Management Shell (not the Exchange Management Console) to create, modify, update, or remove GALs.
