Can you disable Vista's Registry Virtualization RRS feed

  • Question

  • If you write a registry key with a vbscript instead of putting the registry key in HKLM\SOFTWARE\key, it's putting the file in HKEY_USERS\currentusersid\Software\Classes\VirtualStore. Is there anyway to disable this so it will act like XP again and put the file in HKLM\Software?

    Thanks,
    Travis

Hi Travis, based on my knowledge, we cannot disable Windows Vista registry virtualization. If you want to see whether this can be achieved by building your own application, you can post this to MSDN via the following link:

    Hope this helps!

  • Yes, one way is to use Reg.exe (Command Prompt):

    REG.EXE FLAGS HKLM\SOFTWARE\YOURAPP SET DONT_VIRTUALIZE /S
