KB2938066 Installed on Win2012R2 - which WSUS Version? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear all,

According to the KB article of KB2938066 after the Installation of this KB Patch on Win2012R2 the WSUS Server Version should change to the Version: 6.3.9600.17038 and the date and the file size of the file Microsoft.updateservices.corecommon.dll should change as described in the KB article. I have several Win2012R2 WSUS Server where this KB Patch is installed but the WSUS Version and the Version of Microsoft.updateservices.corecommon.dll file is 6.3.9600.16384

Is this a bug or do I understand the KB article wrong? What is the latest Version number of WSUS on Win2012R2 ?

    Best Regards

    Ben

  • I have that update installed and my WSUS version is the same as yours. not all updates for WSUS will actually change the main product version in the console

but my DLLs are showing the new version. when searching for it, make sure you are looking in the right locations as the old DLLs get backed up and still show up.  you should find a couple of them related to the .NET components with v6.3.9600.17038

  • Hi Armin,

Thank you for your quick reply. Well, I have checked this even now again on 3 Win2012R2 Servers with WSUS installed and the KB2938066 installed. If I search there after the Microsoft.updateservices.corecommon.dll I find 2 files one in the path:

    \Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly\GAC_MSIL\Microsoft.UpdateServices.CoreCommon\v4.0_4.0.0.0__31bf3856ad364e35

and the other one in the path:

    \Windows\WinSxS\msil_microsoft.updateservices.corecommon_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.16384_none_c7bb84ffe9d318d0

at both locations the dll file has the old version and an older file date and smaller file size as described in the KB article. This scenario is the same on all 3 Servers. Quite strange. Can you tell me where your dll´s a saved?

  • looks like the same locations as yours

  • Hi Armin,

Yes, of course the update is showing in the list of installed updates (has been installed in 2014) and all servers has been rebooted several times. I have noticed that only by chance with the version number. Well, I thing I will go and uninstall the patch at one of these servers and manually install it again...

BTW: The WSUS is running well on all servers.

  • I have had now time to pick up this issue again. I uninstalled the KB2938066 on one WIN2012R" WSUS server did a reboot, installed it again, same situation. DLL Version of Microsoft.updateservices.corecommon.dll is still 6.3.9600.16384.

My Question: Can others confirm this behaviour? Otherwise I am going to open a case at Microsoft.
